HOP Customer Types

HOP Cards all look the same but they can have a concession loaded onto them.

In order to ensure that the people who receive a concession are entitled to them, concessions need to be applied for and renewed. When a concession expires, the card will still remain valid but the cardholder will be charged adult fares.

We advise you to sign up for HOP updates so we can remind you when the concession on your card is due for renewal.

Eligibility criteria for concessions

  • Children are eligible for a concession on their card from the age of 5 until their 16th birthday.

  • Children over 16 who no longer attend school will need to pay an adult fare, unless they are attending one of the approved tertiary institutes, in which case they can apply for a Tertiary concession.
