3 Steps to Using HOP

Top up your HOP Card

Go to your nearest retailer displaying the HOP and Snapper logos to top up your HOP Card with either
e-money or 10 Trip. Then use it to pay for your bus fare on any Metrolink, LINK, North Star, Go West or Waka Pacific bus service.

HOP Cards can also be used to buy other items such as a newspaper, coffee or sandwiches.
Simply look out for the HOP or Snapper sign or search our list of retailers.

Online and on-board top up will be available in 2012, when all of Auckland’s buses, trains and ferries have switched to HOP.

Register your HOP Card

We recommend you register your HOP Card to protect the balance if your card is lost or stolen. To register and protect your HOP Card, create a MyHOP account. Once you’ve set up a profile, you can register multiple HOP cards for you or your family.

As well as card protection, MyHOP gives you:

  • Access to your e-money balance online,

  • Online e-money transaction history and journey statements

Tag On & Tag Off

To ensure you pay the correct fare every time, simply tag on by holding your HOP Card flat and still to the reader, wait for the beep and green light, and then do the same again as you exit the bus.

Always tag off to ensure you receive the best-value fare. Failure to tag off will result in a penalty fare being applied to your card.
